TUNE OUT AND TURKEY UP
By Ken Sheetz
Today, as we gather with friends and family to celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to reflect on the deep divisions that elections often leave behind. This year has been no exception. Billions of dollars poured into campaigns, countless ads, and endless debates have left us bombarded—not just with information, but with mistrust.
These cycles of division can make it easy to forget that, at our core, we’re all human. The mistrust sown between neighbors, family members, and friends is a deliberate strategy by those who profit from keeping us apart. It’s designed to fracture our unity and make us see the “other side” as the enemy, rather than people who may simply have different perspectives.
But Thanksgiving invites us to pause. To soften. To connect. If someone brings up politics at turkey dinner tell them “I’m on a 4 days politcal holiday weekend. Maybe some other time.” See what happens. We invite you to come back to this post and share how that worked for you.
If you’re feeling the weight of mistrust, know you’re not alone. It’s okay to feel hurt, frustrated, or even betrayed. Acknowledge those feelings, be self-understanding, and then consider this: what if today you choose to see the humanity in those around you? What if we all take one step toward understanding instead of division?
Political Cool Down was created for moments like these. When the world feels overwhelming, we offer a space to escape, to breathe, and to reset with a series of non-partisan Political Cool Down mediations. Meditate on the peace you want to bring into your life—and into the lives of those around you. Let go of the noise for a little while and remember that beyond politics, we share so much in common.
This Thanksgiving, let’s take a bold step together: toward compassion, trust, and hope. No one wins when we’re divided. But when we reach across the divide as fellow human being on this blue world we all share, we remind ourselves—and each other—life is for living in harmony.
So take a 4 day weekend away from political fear boosting news and ruminations. Reflect inwardly on it all. Dream of other universes where things are working out perfectly to solve our difference. Don’t worry our harsh duality of our reality of our politicc will all be there in its beautiful ugliness, as Elizabeth so eloquently puts it, on Monday.
From our family at Coolest Meditation Ever to yours, Happy Thanksgiving. Let’s find peace, one step at a time.
